How a Tired Single Mom Increased Her Metabolism 9.1x (Without Hormones, Stimulants or Heavy Exercise)

Recap of Part One

In part one of this case study, I introduced Rachel, a single mom who struggled for years with chronic fatigue and low energy.

Besides constant fatigue, Rachel had over 20 additional symptoms. She visited several conventional doctors without getting much help.

Eventually, her sister introduced her to alternative therapies such as Traditional Chinese Medicine and chiropractic care. These therapies helped her get back on her feet, but most of her symptoms remained.

When Rachel did a hair analysis, it was an eye-opening experience. Her test revealed at least six biochemical imbalances associated with chronic fatigue and low energy. She was amazed that the test could provide so much information, even after doing a dozen or more tests with different doctors. To read part one, click here.

In this article, I’ll review Rachel’s next two hair tests and discuss the improvements that have occurred. I’ll be focusing specifically on the improvements in her metabolic rate.

Rachel, The Very Slow Oxidizer

Rachel’s first hair analysis revealed that she was a slow oxidizer with an extremely slow metabolic rate of 128 (ideal is 4). As noted in part one, very slow oxidation is an exhaustion stage of stress and is associated with diminished adrenal and thyroid activity. It is also associated with fatigue, depression, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), craving for sweets, copper toxicity, low blood pressure, constipation, low body temperature, and more.

Rachel’s Nutritional Balancing Program

I suggested several nutritional supplements based on Rachel’s hair analysis patterns. I also suggested a diet high in cooked vegetables, with some protein and whole grains with each meal. She was told to avoid adding extra fats and oils (such as butter and olive oil) to her food, as these tend to slow the metabolic rate. I also advised her to go to bed by 9 pm and obtain plenty of rest so that her body can heal. Her program also included drinking 2-3 quarts of spring water each day and several other procedures to reduce stress and support detoxification.

Although Rachel had many symptoms, we ignored them and instead focused on balancing her body chemistry and improving her metabolism.

Rachel’s Second Hair Analysis

As a single mom with a full-time job, Rachel found it hard to fully commit to the program that I suggested. For example, it was difficult for her to get enough rest. She was also sensitive to supplements, which is common for those with adrenal burnout. Her diet was still a work in progress. But she did what she could.

Six months later, despite only following the program about 50%, she reported encouraging improvements. Her fatigue was improved most days. Her sweet cravings were gone except during PMS week. She reported more emotional control at work and greater awareness to relax, slow down, and change her negative thinking. PMS was worse, however, and she was still having anxiety and trouble with OCD and an overactive mind. Muscle cramping and tension did not improve.

Her second hair analysis around this time revealed an improved metabolic rate from 128 to 97. This is better, but still very slow. She was also eliminating several toxic metals, as indicated by higher levels of lead, aluminum, nickel, copper, and manganese (the latter two are nutrient minerals that can build up in toxic forms in the body).

Rachel’s Third Hair Analysis

Her next hair test six months later revealed an even better metabolic rate of 14—much closer to the ideal of 4. In addition, her copper level rose from 3.6 to 18.8, indicating a massive elimination of excess copper.

During this time, she reported that all her symptoms improved, except that her mind was still overactive:

  • Muscle pain was much improved.
  • No longer irritable before meals.
  • No longer had eczema.
  • No longer depressed.
  • Generally sleeping better, with only occasional insomnia.
  • Less fatigue on most days.
  • Anxiety improved.
  • Menstruation was much less painful.
  • Still have an issue with overthinking and analyzing.
  • Occasional headaches.
  • Sugar/carb cravings remain but controllable most of the time.

Discussion

Rachel’s case illustrates that although you can improve your health with various therapies, deeper imbalances often remain and can only be corrected with targeted nutritional therapy. Most therapies are superficial and do not correct the deeper imbalances.

Rachel’s case also illustrates how balancing your metabolism can alleviate many conditions at the same time. This occurs because balancing your metabolism improves your energy production and efficiency, which allows your body to function better on many levels.

This is just the beginning of Rachel’s healing journey. It will probably take her a few years to really restore her health, but she says it has been a huge relief that she can see and feel that she is moving in the right direction.
